The Dennis Chisman Memorial Lecture 2019

by Professor Robin Clark of WMG, University of Warwick

The Engineering Education Conundrum – Defining a Path for the Future

Time and Date: 6.30pm – 30 April 2019

Venue: Boardroom of International Students House (Gulbenkian Room), 229 Great Portland Street, London W1W 5PN

(Event organised in association with the International Students House, London)

Reflecting on the current state of Engineering Education in schools and colleges, both nationally and globally, this talk will explore some of the major achievements of recent years and ask the question ‘What next for Engineering Education?’

Knowledge and understanding through Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education are essential for successful engineering capability, but so is the development and application of problem-solving skills through experience such as work-based learning. Such capability leads to comprehensive competence through the application of the skill-sets necessary for a professional engineer to be successful.

Whether considering the connections between different levels of education, the authenticity of the learning experience, the use of creative and technological approaches or the long-term value to business and society, the talk will suggest that Engineering Education is at something of a crossroads and that our next steps could have a profound effect on the future of our world.

Your contribution to the discussion will be very much valued: teachers, engineers, students, anyone with an interest in the future of engineering education from early years to the workplace.

All are Welcome
